Toll collection, mugging up in Khulna city ahead of Eid
KHULNA, Jan 7: Toll collection and mugging have risen alarmingly in this southern city and its outskirts ahead of the holy Eid despite deployment of police in its vantage points, reports UNB.
Locals reported increasing incidents of mugging after dusk and in day time in busy markets and shopping centres as well the roadside shops.
Mugging rampant in the areas, including New Market, Suhrawardy Market, Bhashani Market, Akhter Chamber, Dukbangla, Picture Palace, South Central Road, Sir Iqbal Road, Mirjapur Road, Santidham Crossing, Ruphsa Ferry Ghat, Shib Bari, Boikali, Khalispur BADC Road, Doulatpur Bus Stoppage and its adjoining markets and Fulbari Gate.
To stop mugging, metropolitan police were deployed in 72 points in the city. About 400 policemen are guarding those points in two shifts, sources said.
They said pickpockets, which also include women, are active in different points of the city. Police has caught three pickpockets.
Toll collection from businessmen has also increase in the city ahead of the Eid. Stealing of motorbikes and pedal-bike reportedly is also on the rise.
