Three-day Rajpunnah festival from Jan 16
The traditional "Rajpunnah" festival of the tribal 'Bomang' community will start from January 16 this year. The 500-year-old festival will continue for three days this year.
The 15th Bomang king Aung Shoi Pro Chowdhury declared it on January 1 at a press conference. This is a festival for collecting land tax (khajna) in 109 'moujas' under the Bomang circle.
On the occasion a folk (lokuj) festival will be held at Bandarban where thousands of indigenous people from far flung areas would come to take part in the function.
Deputy Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Moni Swapan Dewan is expected to attend at the inaugural ceremony.
