Tanker with furnace oil seized in Ctg

A team of Bangladesh Coastguard yesterday seized an oil tanker carrying furnace oil worth about Tk 1.72 crore without valid documents from the river Karnaphuli in Chittagong yesterday.
The tanker -- New OT Samrat -- was carrying 201,500 litres of furnace oil at around 11:00am, said Lt Commander Atiqur Rahman.
On searching the oil tanker, the coastguard team did not find related documents for the furnace oil and thus seized the ship and the furnace oil, he said.
The ship might have illegally procured the furnace oil from the merchant vessels anchored in the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port, he added.
“We will keep the tanker in our custody for the time being,” said Atiqur, adding that they will sit with customs officials today to settle the matter.
