Stereotype Shake-off
You are bound to act according to your public image. What people type-cast you as.
Do you not agree?
Fact is, many don't.
You can be whatever you want.
You can be the nerd -- the one who gets all the good grades and makes the other students in the class groan.
You can be the bad boy -- the one who gets into trouble and cracks jokes in every class.
You can be the girly girl -- the one who loves dressing up, who loves Twilight and Justin Bieber.
You can be a girl wearing hijab -- the one who is extremely conservative and “isn't very fun”.
You can be the youngest one in the group -- the naive one who knows nothing.
You can even be like one of those Disney child stars -- always singing and laughing in their comedy shows, meant to be looked up to by kids.
But WHAT If you don't want to be any of those, right after you've established a particular image?
This is the part where you need to shake off the image. For some, they'll be ridiculed. For some, the image would be taken as a good thing. Some will probably give up on what they want to be…because people don't like it.
The nerd might get sick of being mocked as the “teacher's pet”, and start wanting to be someone “cooler”.
The bad boy might want to do some good for once and need help. People would doubt him, though. He would have to do something miraculous like in the movies to gain everyone's trust, because you just can't help a trouble-maker wanting to do something good.
The hijab-wearing girl would need an extra strong will to remain the way she is. If she doesn't, then she would have to try very hard to be accepted and prove that she can be fun, too.
The ones who are thought to be naive would just start trying to handle bigger things, solve bigger problems, just to show that they are capable, even when they might not be.
And after they change, people type-cast them as something else. At one point, they might want to change that, too.
So here's the question: Is it worth it? Changing yourself to shake the image off, just so you can end up doing the same again?
