Shoaib 'shocked'
Pakistani pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar said he was "totally shocked" after being banned Friday from international cricket by the game's ruling body over his bowling action, but vowed to return, reports AFP.
The besieged speedster is regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the world with speeds reaching 155 kilometres an hour and only arrived in Perth with the Pakistan team on Thursday afternoon.
Akhtar said he was "totally shocked" and the decision meant he would now fly home on January 2.
"They've just told me to remodel my action, but I can't say anything more because I'll be in trouble," he said.
The Pakistanis conceded Akhtar's ban was a setback, but backed the 23-year-old to return with a vengeance.
Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said the decision was "sad" and questioned other bowlers' actions.
"I've played more cricket than anyone else in the world and I think his action is fine -- more than fine," Wasim told Ten News.
"If arm bends are (illegal), every second bowler does the same thing so it means they are going to ban everyone -- let's see.
"The poor guy -- I can't imagine what he must be feeling now. My heart goes out to him."
