Shibir men demonstrate in capital

The activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, brought out a brisk procession in the capital's Dhanmondi area Tuesday protesting "the recent crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood members in Egypt".

The procession, which was brought out in Mirpur Road near Labaid Hospital around 8:35am, continued for a few minutes, witnesses said.

The Shibir men also blasted a homemade crude bomb during the demonstration.

Nearly 200 Shibir men who were demonstrating in the morning chanted slogans: "Nare Takbir", "Allah Hu Akbar", said Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station.

"We condemn the crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood members, and express solidarity with their protest," said Dr Abdullah Taher, a member of central working committee of Jamaat.

But the Jamaat leader showed his ignorance about Shibir's demonstration.

The BBC report said that almost 900 people, including more than 100 law enforcers, are reported to have been killed in Egypt since Wednesday, when the army cleared protest camps set up by supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi, many of them members of the Muslim Brotherhood movement.
