Shibir torches truck, 7 held
Islami Chhatra Shibir activists torched a mango-laden truck in Rajshahi city while police picked up eight Shibir activists during hartal hours yesterday.
About 30 Shibir men brought out a procession in Horian Mahendra area of the city and set the truck, which was parked there, on fire, said Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station.
He further said that police picked up two Shibir activists while they were picketing and six more activists from a mess who were allegedly monitoring picketing in the city.
Aside from these incidents, the hartal was peaceful in Rajshahi city.
Jamaat-e-Islami backed Islami Chhatra Shibir called hartal in three districts --Rajshahi, Natore and Chapainawabganj -- demanding “release of two of its Rajshahi University unit leaders who were arrested in the capital”.
