Shibir chief held; hartal Tuesday
Islami Chhatra Shibir President Delawar Hossain
Police arrested Delawar Hossain, president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, at Shyamoli in the capital, prompting the organisation to call for a countrywide daylong shutdown for Tuesday.
Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, also threatened of enforcing non-stop shutdown if Delawar is not freed immediately.
A team from the detectives picked up Delawar from one of his relatives’ house in Shyamoli, Nazrul Islam Mollah, deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch of police, told The Daily Star.
The Shibir chief remains accused in most cases filed in connection with recent violence, including arson, vandalism, bombing and assault on police, in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
Activists of Jamaat and Shibir have been unleashing terror in different parts of the country over the last few months demanding release of top Jamaat leaders some of who have been convicted while some others are facing trial for wartime offences.
