Ruling party men ransack mayor office
Local ruling party men ransacked Kazipur municipality office in Sirajganj district yesterday morning.
A group, led by leaders of Jubo League and Chhatra League, attacked the office at 11:00am and damaged the mayor's room, its refrigerator, chair, table and other furniture worth Tk 7 lakh.
Mayor of the municipality Md Abdus Salam said “The ruling party men have been harassing me for long as I belong to the main opposition party”.
Local Jubo League and BCL leaders Zia and Aslam launched the attack over previous political feud, alleged the mayor, also the president of the municipality unit BNP.
Contacted, Md Khalilur Rahman Sirazi, organising secretary of Kazipur upazila unit AL, said there was a feud between the mayor and a few youths in the area over finalising bidders of a recent tender.
“It may Be a sequel to the row", he said.
“If the party men found involved in any criminal activities, organisational steps would be taken against them.” he added.
Punitive actions would be taken against those responsible for the offence after investigating the matter, said upazila nirbahi officer Md Shafiul Islam.
