RS THROUGH THE AGES
TIME is an ocean, not a stream. With a suitable ship, you can go back and forth, over and under. That much is clear for everyone that has watched at least one crappy sci-fi movie. The trouble was finding that suitable ship.
Until now.
They say knowledge is power. And with enough power, you can generate a force field strong enough to rip through space and time. Since Rising Stars deals exclusively in Knowledge of a certain kind, we have been able to make a breakthrough. Here's what RS would have been like in different points of the Earth's history.
The Rising Stars of the Jurassic Park
The lovable and envy-inspiring rich culture of the velociraptors would often employ the services of Rising Stars to squash their deadly enemies: the dino-mosquitoes. They would roll up the tree trunks that were delivered weekly to smash those little bugs. But in time the function of RS would have certainly evolved to that of a weapon of mass slappery. And that's how the dinosaurs would have perished.
The Rising Stars of the Neanderthal Cave Men
Rising Stars have always been quick on the uptake of the time. So who would know better than them to cash in on the raging stone industry? We guess the stone tablets would contain stories of great imaginary hunts from the cave-dweller teenagerish kid whose parents wouldn't take him out for a real one, DIY Making the Cave Brighter and progressive Rock and Roll.
Genghis Khan's Rising Stars
We prefer to think things would have been different had the sheep-skin parchments of RS containing relationship advices from the Druid/Shaman Lovelove been seen by the great Mongolian conqueror. Or it could have been the same... There's no way to know for certain. What we know for certain is that RS would have played a big part in popularising a certain type of moustache.
1940's Rising Stars
Rising Stars is the flag bearer of love and peace, barring some of the morbid fiction pieces, and game reviews. If there was RS, there wouldn't have been a war. Or so we like to think. Anne Frank would have been a regular contributor. Our core writers would have been slightly less messed up in the head. Also we would have advertised only the meanest anti-lice shampoos.
1950's Rising Stars
Never let anyone say that RS doesn't love pretty faces. Because that would be a blatant lie. We think centrefolds of Merilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor would have been a regular feature. Also Shuchorita and Razzak. We get a feeling that RS would have hero-worshipped Khan Ataur Rahman and Zahir Rayhan.
1980's Rising Stars
Disco shirts. Bell-bottom Jeans. RS would have had a blast. Also, writers would have ripped the Apple 1 apart and had a field day to find out who let the dogs out. Also, Hammer Time. And Moonwalk. And those glittery things people used on clothes. And of course, the movement against Dictatorship. Although we sometimes wonder if we could have gotten away with political references even in those days.
1990's Rising Stars
This is the tricky part, because RS had been in existence back in the 90's. but our archives don't have those issues, and even if they did, this writer wouldn't be the one to go through them to find out the trend. We can only guess that there were great self-help articles on How to Open an Email Account for Free and something about Pamela Anderson.
So what did we learn from this article?
Nothing. But we can take solace in the fact that at least we are in the 21st century, when there are much more interesting things. Or maybe not. We don't know.
