Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony was denied bail for second time Tuesday in connection with an attempted murder case.
The case was filed against the Patuakhali-3 lawmaker on July 20 hours after he beat up Independent TV reporter Imtiaz Momin and cameraperson Mohsin Mukul at his Topkhana Road office.
Judge (in-charge) Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge rejected the bail petition holding hearing on a petition filed by Rony challenging the bail rejection order of another lower court.
On July 28, Rony submitted the petition three days after the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court rejected his bail petition for the first time and sent him to jail in the case.
Rony obtained an ad-interim bail on July 21 and it was cancelled on July 24 following an appeal by Yusuf Ali, assistant manager of the TV channel.
Detective Branch of police arrested Rony on July 24 while he was waiting for his car at the gate of Bashundhara Residential Area.
