Ratna set to be excluded
SA Games gold medallist shooter Sharmin Akter Ratna, Shahriar Chandan and Miti Dewan are likely to be kept out of the national training camp on disciplinary ground as a three-month long training camp is set to get underway from June 2 at three venues ahead of the Asian Youth Games in August and Asian Airgun Championship in October.
Respective organisations of Ratna, Chandan and Miti were asked to serve show-cause notices by the National Shooting Federation citing that the shooters misbehaved with an employee of the federation during the Bangladesh Games.
“All three are on the initial list, which was made on the basis of their performance in the Bangladesh Games. But I am not sure whether they will be on the final list. The executive committee will take the final decision on them,” said the chairman of the training committee Ishfaq Ahmed.
However, Ishfaq, also joint secretary of the federation, failed to clarify whether the federation got any reply from those three organisations.
When asked about the show-cause notice, Ratna said that she had explained to Bangladesh Ansar about the incident regarding an NSF accountant after being show-caused.
“We just protested the misbehaviour of the accountant with Miti Dewan. However, later we expressed apologies for the incident but I can't understand why the federation took it to the president of my organisation,” said Ratna, who won team gold in the SA Games and Commonwealth Shooting Championship in 2010.
It has been learnt that Chandan was served a show-cause notice by his club Kushtia Rifles Club enquiring why he was not punished while the decision on Miti Dewan would be taken on Saturday by the Dhaka Rifles Club.
Top six shooters of 12 events were initially selected for the three-month camp where Commonwealth Gold medallist shooter Asif Hossain Khan and promising Armin Asha were selected despite their poor performance in the Bangladesh Games.
“Since Asif and Asha have good track record, we have decided to give them another chance,” said Ishfaq.
The training committee however did not consider Tripti Datta, who skipped the SA Games for her HSC examinations, for the camp.
Ishfaq said that they were going to start the training camp with 55 shooters at three venues -- the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan, Bangladesh Army Shooting Club and the National Shooting Complex and that they would hold evaluation competition in every 15 days under local coaches.
