Rangpur city mayor injured in road crash

Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Shorfuddin Ahmed Jhauntu was injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Sirajganj on Sunday.

Shorfuddin's friend Khaja Mondal Bakul and his car driver were also injured as the vehicle lost control and hit a roadside tree after one of its front tyre punctured at West Point of Jamuna Bridge around 12:30pm, reports our Rangpur correspondent.

The injured were rushed to a local clinic from where the 70-year-old mayor and his friend were shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Dhaka as their condition deteriorated, Golam Zakaria Pintu, vice-president of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who was also going to Dhaka in a separate vehicle, told The Daily Star.
