Star Showbiz Rating: 3.5/5
Plot: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ is a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Romeo & Juliet'. Ram, the local village Romeo, is a charming yet melodramatic wanderer who is full of life and Leela, the Juliet, is an uncontrolled yet passionate village girl. The only similarity these two people have in common is their families' hatred for each other. The two communities have been sworn enemies since forever. Set in a land of guns and vengeance, ‘Ram-Leela’ is a love story set against the backdrop of enmity, hatred, violence and bloodshed.
Review: Sanjay Leela Bhansali turns ‘Ram-Leela’ into such an ardent celebration of love, that it will have a spellbinding effect on its viewers. In the end it is Bhansali who is credited for screenplay, editing, music, and direction, leaving his stamp all over the film. The electrifying chemistry between its lead actors, the powerful dramatic content, the brilliant musical score, and the vicious streaks of action sequences add an innovative twirl to the premise. However the narrative starts to jiggle just before interval making it an over-plotted, bloody mess by the end of the film. In her last few films, Deepika has stolen the show from her heroes but this one belongs to Ranveer. Still Deepika and Ranveer and their on-screen intoxicating chemistry and brilliant acting make ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ worth watching.
