Programmes to celebrate Zia's birth anniversary
An 11-day programme to celebrate the 67th birth anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman begins today.
Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) and its front organisations, and other socio-economic and cultural bodies chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the birth anniversary.
Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal will organise a discussion on "Sramik Zia" at 3 pm today at the WAPDA auditorium at Motijheel here, a party press release said yesterday.
BNP and its front organisations will distribute warm clothes among the poor in the city tonight.
The organisations will place wreaths and offer munajat at the mazar of Zia at 10 am on January 19, the birthday of President Zia.
On this day, party flags would be hoisted atop all offices of the party across the country.
A discussion will be held on the life of President Zia at 3.30 pm at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers. A cultural function will also be organised.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal, Zia Shishu Kishore Sangathan, Krishak Dal, Mohila Dal, Chhatra Dal, Jatiyatabadi Samajik-Sangskritik Sangstha (JSSS), Sechchashebok Dal, Tanti Dal, Jubo Dal and Jatiyatabadi Motshajibi Dal will organise separate programmes on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 respectively to celebrate the birthday of Zia.
The programmes include discussions and cultural functions, colourful processions, art competitions, giving away of Shaheed Zia Smriti Award and distribution of warm clothes among the poor.
Besides, leaders and activists of the party and its front organisations will hold a mosquito control and cleanliness drive in the city on January 28.
