Prize money cut drastically
The third edition of the Super Cup will not be as money-spinning as its two previous editions, as the prize money has been drastically curtailed this time. A meeting of the Bangladesh Professional Football League yesterday, decided to hold the tournament in the second week of May where the top eight teams of Bangladesh Premier League will participate. However, there will be no Tk one crore prize money for the winners, rather the champions will get Tk 30 lakh.
“Due to fund constraint as well as the number of events that we have to organise, the meeting has decided in principle to award the champions Tk 30 lakh instead of Tk one crore,” said a source close to the professional football league meeting which was held yesterday at the BFF House.
The meeting also decided to resume the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League from April 6 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium and it also decided that the latter matches might be shifted to the Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur due to the Bangladesh Games, which will get underway from April 20. The league was suspended for 40 days for national football team's engagement in the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers as well as the ongoing Independence Cup Football Tournament.
