PDB office attacked, 5 staffs assaulted
Angry locals of Ashekpur in the district town vandalised the Power Development (PDB) office yesterday and beat up five officials and employees.
The incident took place after the area plunged into darkness at around 1:00am due to technical fault in the transformer.
A group people, numbering around 50, besieged the PDB's sales and distribution office-1 on Mymensingh Road in the morning, witnesses said.
They attacked and vandalised the office damaging furniture, window panes and vehicles in the compound.
They also beat up Abdur Rashid, manager (peshkar) of the office, meter reader Mohammad Shahajada, driver Sohel Miah, and security guards Abdus Sattar and Arshed Ali.
Of the injured, Abdur Rashid was admitted to Tangail General Hospital in critical condition.
The attackers are nothing but criminals. They attacked the office in a pre-planned way to hamper our work, said Shahadat Ali, executive engineer at the sales and distribution office-1 of PDB in Tangail.
"We sent two teams of PDB officials and employees to the area at night to resolve the problem and they were still holding repairing work when the criminals attacked the office and officials and employees there," he added.
Anwarul Islam, assistant engineer of PDB in Tangail, yesterday filed a case with Tangail Model police station in this regard.
