Working to make village courts more effective: Tazul
The government took necessary steps to implement the third phase of Activating Village Courts across the country to ensure justice for the poor, women and vulnerable groups, said LGRD Minister Md Tazul Islam today.
The minister was addressing the national workshop on "Impact of Village Court Project and Way Forward", said a press release.
The government is also working to amend the Village Court Act, 2006 to make it more effective and people-friendly, the minister said.
He thanked the EU and UNDP for their support.
EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley was present as a special guest.
Sudipto Mukerjee, resident representative, UNDP Bangladesh; and Mohammed Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, secretary to the Local Government Division, also spoke on the occasion.
