Boy stabbed to death in Ashulia

A boy was stabbed to death by unknown miscreants in Ashulia on Wednesday night.
They attacked Hasibur Rahman, 13, son Abul Kalam of Vadai village in Ashulia, around 9:00pm while he was going to their shop in the village, said victim's uncle Abdul Motaleb.
Police suspect that the attack was made to snatch his mobile phone set as it was not found after the incident.
A case was filed with the police.
Three houses gutted in Ctg

Three houses were gutted by a fire at north Idolpur village in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The fire originated from a stove at one of the houses and spread to the others causing damage of Tk 1.2 lakh, said fire service officials.
Fire fighters doused the fire around 2:45am after an hour long effort.
Beheaded body found in N'ganj

Police recovered the beheaded body of a woman, aged around 23, from the Shitalakkhya river in Shahidnagar area of Narayanganj yesterday.
After seeing the body floating in the river, locals informed Narayanganj police of the matter.
The body was too badly decomposed to be identified.
A case was filed with Narayanganj Police Station.
Prof Iftekhar made CU pro-VC

Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury of sociology department was made pro-vice chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) yesterday for four years.
Prof Iftekhar joined the department as a lecturer in 1982. He was a former chairman of the department, and former president of CU Teachers' Association (CUTA).
First ever National Environment Olympiad at DU starts today

The Department of Geography and Environment, Dhaka University is launching the first ever “National Environment Olympiad” at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, DU today.
The six-day Olympiad will begin at 9:30am.
Prof Nasreen Ahmad, pro-vice chancellor of DU, will be present as the chief guest and Prof Nazrul Islam, president of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh as the special guest.
Prof Hafiza Khatun will deliver the keynote speech.
Woman's body recovered in capital

Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman, aged around 35, stuffed in a sack in the capital's Kochukhet yesterday.
The body, sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, bore no signs of injury and police suspect she was strangled.
Japanese envoy meets JS Speaker

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima yesterday called on Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her Sangsad Bhaban office in the capital and invited her to visit Japan.
The envoy stressed the need for exchanging bilateral tours for developing relationship between the countries.
