Three boys die in capital

Two boys were found dead in the capital yesterday while another died after being hit by a train.
Police recovered the body of Shaon, 7, who went missing in the morning, from a ditch near his Dhakkhin Banasree residence. He was the son of Faruq Hossain.
Keraniganj police recovered the floating body of Kawsar, 6, from the Buriganga river at Madaripur Launch Ghat.
Meanwhile, an unidentified boy died in Banani Rail Gate area after a train hit him.
Girl, woman 'commit suicide' in capital

A teenager and a woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in the capital's Kathalbagan on Saturday night.
Laboni Akhter, 13, killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan in her residence over a dispute with her mother over buying a television, said Kalabagan police.
In another incident, Nadia Sultana, 20, hung herself from a ceiling fan in her uncle's flat where she was visiting, said police.
US congratulates newly elected city mayors

The United States has congratulated the newly elected mayors of Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal and Khulna cities and also wished them success.
Spokesperson Kelly McCarthy for the US embassy yesterday also said, “We commend the election officials for conducting free, fair and credible elections and applaud the important contributions of security forces to promoting a peaceful environment in the four cities during the electoral process.”
Eight 'robbers' held in Bay

Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone) personnel held eight alleged robbers and seized three engine-run boats, worth Tk 2.5 lakh, at the outer anchorage of the Bay of Bengal early yesterday.
The eight were preparing for committing robbery in nearby areas, said a press release.
The arrestees and the boats were handed over to Patenga police and a case was filed in this regard.
Fish trader killed in Khulna

Miscreants killed a fish trader by bashing his head with a hammer on Cemetery Road in Khulna city yesterday.
Meanwhile, one Rezia Khatun, 52, died of a heart attack while witnessing the murder.
Witnesses said a gang attacked Delwar Hossain Khan, 50, with a hammer near his residence and fled away.
Delwar died at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Victim's wife filed a case against five people including Nurjahan Begum with whom Delwar had a land dispute. Police arrested Nurjahan.
JU reopens tomorrow
JU Correspondent
All academic activities of Jahangirnagar University will resume tomorrow after a month-long summer vacation.
The university was closed on May 18.
Doctor killed in hit and run

A resident medical officer of the capital's Central Police Hospital, Rajarbagh was killed while returning to his quarters in the adjacent Rajarbagh Police Lines on Saturday night after an unidentified vehicle hit the motorcycle he was riding.
The deceased Dr Sharif Kutub-un Noman alias Likhon, 37, has a wife and a daughter. Police said no case was filed till yesterday evening, no autopsy was conducted and the vehicle could not be traced.
Jubo League man shot in capital

Unidentified criminals shot a pro-Awami League youth organisation Jubo League ward 20 unit joint secretary four times on his way home in the capital's Badda around 10:30pm yesterday.
Imrul Islam Suman, 25, also a contractor of his place of residence in North Badda, is now being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
