Model Raha's body exhumed

The body of Sumaiya Asgar Raha, one of the 10 finalists in the beauty pageant and talent hunt “Lux-Channel i Super Star” of 2007, was exhumed from Azimpur Graveyard in the capital yesterday for autopsy.
A Dhaka court granted the exhumation on Wednesday following a police appeal seeking the autopsy amid controversy in the media surrounding her death.
Raha's family claimed that she committed suicide on March 23 and they buried her that day without informing police.
Her father Sheikh Ali Asgar told The Daily Star yesterday that they found Raha hanging by the neck from a ceiling fan after breaking into her room in their Chan Miah Housing residence in the capital's Mohammadpur around 7:30am.
Her fiancé had dropped her home around 11:30pm on March 22 and she had gone to sleep sometime afterwards, he said, adding that Raha used to bear a major portion of the family expenses from what she earned working as a model.
Mohammadpur police in the inquest report asked Dhaka Medical College morgue to specifically see whether the deceased was pregnant, raped, suffocated or poisoned.
