Master plan for Ctg city underway
The government is going to formulate a master plan for developing the port city of Chittagong into a commercial capital.
The cabinet in its Monday's meeting approved the recomm-endation of a secretarial com-mittee for making Chittagong a commercial capital, official sources said.
Under the master plan, they said, different projects will be implemented by the ministries concerned and the cabinet will prepare a concept paper soon in this regard.
The projects envisage two five-star hotels, a modern port and a tourist resort. Communication facilities will be modernised and head offices of bank, insurance and other financial institutions will be set up in the commercial capital.
Besides, the government is considering expansion of different government offices and their activities in Chittagong.
They said the ministry of civil aviation and tourism will be asked to take a project for building five-star hotels. The ministry of shipping will modernise the port.
Simultaneously, the ministries of youth and sports, communi-cations and information and communication technology (ICT) will undertake separate projects for construction of a stadium and roads and development of information technology under the master plan.
Meanwhile, steps have been taken to operate flights from Chittagong to Chiang Mai and Bangkok.
Sources said Food Minister Abdullah Al Noman will supervise the project implementation under the master plan.
