Man, woman killed by sons over land
A man and a woman were killed allegedly by their sons over land disputes in Tangail and Lalmonirhat districts yesterday and the day before.
An elderly man was strangled allegedly by his son at Baro Basalia village in Sadar upazila of Tangail yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Ebadat Ali, 75, of the village. He was father of four sons, reports our correspondent.
Police and locals said Ebadat recently gave his younger son some money after selling a piece of land.
Ebadat's second son Tomez Ali, 45, could not accept it easily and locked in quarrel with his father over the matter yesterday morning.
At one stage of altercation, Tomez killed his father and fled the scene.
In Lalmonirhat, a woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her stepsons over a piece of disputed land at Tepur Bazar village in Kaliganj upazila on Tuesday night, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Rahima Begum, 52, second wife of Mofiz Uddin of the areas.
According to police, two stepsons Somor, Hafizur and their wives attacked Rahima, who was childless, with sharp weapons, leaving her critically injured when she demanded two bighas of land from her husband.
Rahima was rushed to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where she died after sometime, said deceased's brother Zohurul Islam, also the plaintiff of the case.
