LIVING WITH THE STARS
Our dedicated readers, who avidly devour Showbiz every week, must surely have noticed our recent efforts to convey the originality and creativity of our country's film industry. It's time to stop assuming that other countries make better movies and time to give our own films a chance. There's no denying that our film industry has been suffering from a grievous downfall for the past few decades. Indubitably, the recent movies released aren't all that great either, but amongst the mediocre, the semi-mediocre and some of the great ones, we have attempted (and hopefully succeeded) to draw attention to the films that have stirred up a buzz in the filmdom and that too in a positive manner. I realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but at the same time it is crucial to acknowledge that there's a dire need of appreciation in the film industry. There are producers, directors and actors who are trying to make changes, alter the scenario of the filmdom and that's something that needs encouraging and indulgence if we are ever to see the industry resurrected and back on its feet again.
There is a popular remark that many elderly people make and it goes a little something like “The movies were better in our days”. With all due respect, I beg to differ with this statement. There have always been good times and bad times in the industry; it's a natural process. But it's our responsibility to tenaciously appreciate the positive changes that are made, welcome newcomers to the industry and additionally encourage artists and directors who need improvisation rather than entirely demoralising their efforts.
In this edition of Showbiz, I am delighted to introduce model turned film actor, Arefin Shuvo. His latest film titled “Valobasha Zindabad” has hit the cinemas on the 8th of November. Comparatively new to the industry, Shuvo isn't your typical hero with the fixed set of usual features and that boyish charm most actors are well known for. Endowed with well-contoured jaw lines, rugged looks and great height, I believe Shuvo is here to stay, not just sweeping the viewers off their feet with his good looks but also with his acting prowess. Earlier, we have watched him deliver a brilliant performance in the Jaya-Shakib movie titled “Purnodoirgho Prem Kahini” where he played the role of an anti-hero. However, it's too soon to make the call as to whether he will make a good anti-hero or protagonist. We welcome Shuvo to the industry with open arms and hope to see more of him in the years to come.
