Lightning kills 7 in Dhaka, Chapainawabganj
Lightning struck many parts of the country Wednesday, killing two in the capital and five in Chapainawabganj.
The two who died at Baridhara in Dhaka were construction workers. Both Wasim, 19, and Sohail, 19, hailed from Naogaon.
The two were taking rest along with eight other workers at a construction site of British High Commission at Baridhara around 3:00pm when lightning struck.
They were rushed to a local hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.
Eight others sustained burn injuries.
The Chapainawabganj victims have been identified as: Md Mikail, 15, of Chandlai area in the town, Omar Ali, 18, and Jahurul Islam, 20, of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, Mohammad Moslem, 40, of Gomostapur upazila, and Mohammad Shamim, 22, of Shibganj upazila.
Mikail with some of his friends were picking mangoes around 1:45pm while lightning struck them, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.
Mikail was declared dead when his family members rushed him to the hospital.
Hit by lightning, Moslem also died while plucking mangoes around 1:30pm at Bompur area of Gomostapur upazila.
Meanwhile, Jahurul was struck by lightning while he was returning to his Atahar area residence. Locals rushed him to the hospital where on duty doctor declared him dead.
Shamim was killed by thunderbolt when he was returning home from a mango orchard around 1:30pm.
