Khelte Khelte Shikha – the Health of our Nation by Capturing a Lost Legacy
The British Council and the Standard Chartered Bank, working in partnership to ensure that Physical Education is an active component of the national curriculum, are proud to announce the production of a comprehensive package of Physical Education teaching aids. These aids – a set of Khelte Khelte Shikha cards - will be distributed to all schools to help teachers in all primary and secondary schools in Bangladesh develop the fitness and wellbeing of all school children though physical exercise and games.
In the first phase of this nationwide project the British Council and the Standard Chartered Bank will hand over 35,000 copies of the Khelte Khelte Shikha cards to the Honourable Minister of Education for distribution to all secondary schools, including alia madrassas, of Bangladesh.
The set of 36 Physical Education cards introduces physical exercise based on traditional Bangladeshi games. The development of the cards is the product of a three year programme 'International Inspiration' delivered by the British Council, UNICEF and UK Sport which, inspired by the London 2102 Olympics and Paralympics, aimed to connect young people with the power of sport and inspire them to self-development.
Shakib Al Hasan, Brand Ambassador, Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh attended the international all round cricketer was literally bowled over and knocked for 6 by the nationwide initiative: 'This has to be good for the national sports of Bangladesh' he said. The CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, Jim McCabe, was personally committed to this initiative.
Rosemary Arnott, Director, British Council Bangladesh was also present at the programme.
