Keep Qaisar in custody
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 yesterday ordered the authority concerned to keep war crimes suspect Syed Mohammad Qaisar in police custody until the conclusion of the ongoing investigation against him.
The tribunal led by Justice Obaidul Hassan also directed the prosecution to submit another progress report before it by July 18 on the investigation over Qaisar's alleged involvement in crimes against humanity.
The court came up with the decision after prosecutor Rana Dasgupta submitted a progress report on the investigation yesterday and sought more time to complete the investigation effectively.
Qaisar, a former state minister in military dictator HM Ershad's cabinet, was arrested on May 21 following the arrest warrant issued by the tribunal.
According to the prosecution, the suspect committed “plenty of crimes against humanity" in collaboration with the Pakistani army in Habiganj and Brahmanbaria in 1971.
