Kazi Zafar heads 'new committee’

Expelled Jatiya Party leader Kazi Zafar Ahmed yesterday announced an interim committee declaring himself as the chairman of the party and Golam Moshi as its secretary general.
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Thursday expelled Zafar on the grounds that he (Zafar) had spoken against him. Almost immediately, Zafar expelled Ershad blaming him of constantly changing his political stance.
Golam Moshi, who has recently resigned from the party as a presidium member, yesterday told The Daily Star that they had formed the committee to re-structure the party. It would hold a council by December 15 to form a fresh committee.
He claimed that majority of the party members were with them.
Meanwhile, Kazi Zafar met BNP chief Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan home around 7:30pm yesterday. He had explained to her the situation in his party, said meeting sources.
Moshi said the BNP chief in the meeting urged all political parties of the country to join the opposition's ongoing agitation to restore the caretaker government system.
According to meeting sources, Khaleda censured Ershad for his recent role saying that Ershad had pledged a tie with the BNP but later betrayed by joining Hasina's cabinet.
