I'm ready to resign if asked: JU VC

Vice Chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University Prof Anwar Hossain on Friday said he is ready to resign from his position if President Abdul Hamid also the chancellor of the university asked him to quit.

The VC, who has been in confinement in his office since 11:00am Wednesday, also said he will resign if his resignation is the only way to restore congenial state in the campus, reports our JU correspondent.

A faction of teachers under the banner of Sadharon Shikkhak Forum kept the VC confined for the third consecutive day on Friday demanding his removal.

Meanwhile, the forum declared to continue their agitation for three more days from Friday to press home their demand.

The agitating teachers alleged the VC of biasness, anomalies in the admission process and teachers’ appointments, ruining the campus by taking up unnecessary projects, and misusing university funds.

Prof Hanif Ali, convener of Sadharon Shikkhak Forum, on Thursday said the VC had lost the moral right to hold the post.

However, the VC met his relatives at his office on Friday morning.
