Jamaat men cut tendons of Jubo League leader
A local Jubo League leader was seriously injured as Jamaat and BNP activists severed his tendons in Balipara union of Zianagar upazila on Friday.
Injured Mizanur Rahman Hawlader is general secretary of local Jubo League and member of the union parishad. He was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.
Locals said, more than 150 Jamaat and BNP men attacked the house of Mizanur at Kalaran Bazar and set it on fire in the evening. At one stage, they cut the tendons of his legs and hands.
One Aziz and Samshu, cousins of Mizanur, were also injured by the attackers as they tried to save their brother.
As the news spread, a large number of Awami League men swooped on the attackers, triggering a clash. Three Jamaat-BNP men sustained bullet injuries during the clash.
Motahar, sub-inspector at Zianagar police station, said following the death sentence of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, AL and BNP-Jamaat men became active in the union as Sayeedi hailed from the area.
