Meryl Streep, widely regarded one of the best actresses of the modern era, originally applied to Law School but slept in on the morning of her interview and took it as a sign she was destined for other things. She went on to study at the Yale School of Drama, and made her first appearance in films with “Julia” (1977).  Over the next four decades, she has won three Academy Awards (17 nominations) and eight Golden Globes (27 nominations), in a whooping tally of 112 major awards.
