Reacting strongly to an Indian court verdict acquitting the lone accused in Bangladeshi girl Felani Khatun murder, chairman of the National Human Rights Commission has said the judgement is disrespect to the international law.

"It has not only cheated Felani's soul or her family out of justice, but also the whole nation," NHRC chairman Mizanur Rahman said while commenting on Friday's Indian verdict on the sensational killing.

Terming the verdict unacceptable, he said the Indian court judgement is nothing but "a travesty of justice".

"It goes against justice,” Mizanur told reporters after emerging from a discussion at Liberation War Museum in the capital.

Sector Commanders' Forum organised the discussion on 'War Crimes Trials and Propaganda'.

He said he would the Indian human rights commission to take part in the process of challenging the court verdict.

The Bangladesh foreign ministry should inform the Indian authorities that the verdict deprived the people of Bangladesh of justice, Mizanur said.

A special court in the Indian state of West Bengal on Friday ruled that Amiya Ghosh, a constable of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) who was the lone accused, was not guilty of shooting Felani.

After the 15-year old girl was shot dead by BSF men while she along with her father was scaling over the barbed wire fences at Anantapur border point in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011 to return home, her body was seen hanging from the border fence. Her father managed to escape.

Rejecting the verdict, Felani’s father Nurul Islam said that he would appeal to the government to take the matter to the international court.
