Hearing on charge framing adjourned till June 6
A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned until June 6 the hearing on charge framing against 13 students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) in connection with the killing of Zubair Ahmed in January last year.
All the accused are activists of the JU unit of pro-Awami League Bangladesh Chhatra League.
On January 8 last year, Zubair, an honours final year student of the English department of JU, was allegedly tortured and stabbed by the accused and some others. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in the capital on the next day.
Following the incident, police arrested Khandaker Ashikul Islam alias Ashik, Mahabub Akram, Najmus Sakib Topu and Zahid Hasan.
Of them, Mahbub, Topu and Zahid gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates.
On April 8 last year, Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector Mir Shahin Shah Parvez, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the accused.
Following the charge sheet, the remaining accused were surrendered before the lower courts on different dates and were sent to jail, but they were earlier granted bails from different courts.
