Mothers play role at increasing risk of high birthweight babies
A new study shows that a woman's pre-pregnancy body fat (adiposity), in-pregnancy weight gain, and presence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can all combine to steeply increase the risk of giving birth to large-for-gestational age (LGA) babies to different degrees in women of different races. The research has been published in the journal Diabetologia (the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes).
Less salt, more potassium = millions of lives saved
Reducing dietary salt intake and boosting levels of potassium (found in fish, potato with skin, banana, dark leafy green vegetables) would prevent millions of deaths from heart disease and stroke worldwide each year, according to three new studies published in BMJ.
