Madrasa teacher sent to jail over rape of student

A madrasa teacher was sent to jail today after being arrested for allegedly raping his student in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh on Sunday.

The arrestee, Rezwan Parvez, is aged 22, and the victim is 11 years old.

The incident took place in the madrasa in Chilahati union around 1:30am on Sunday, said Md Sohel Rana, officer-in-charge of Debiganj Police Station.

Quoting the case statement, he said that on early Sunday, the teacher raped the victim and later forced him to lay his hand on the Holy Quran and promise not to disclose the matter to anyone.

The student later shared the incident with his family members.

Early today, locals caught the madrasa teacher and handed him over to police.

The victim's father filed a case with the Debiganj Police Station today.

The accused was produced before a court which sent him to jail today, said Panchagarh Court Police Inspector Khan Md Shahriar.
