Hartal disrupts ferry service in Goalanda
A half-day hartal enforced by local unit of Awami League (AL) in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district yesterday disrupted ferry service on Daulatdia-Paturia route.
The hartal was called to protest attack on a party leader on Saturday.
Hartal supporters yesterday stopped ferry service at Daulatdia Ghat in the morning, causing huge traffic jam and sufferings to the passengers.
During the 7-hour hartal, vehicular movement in the upazila was thin and most of the shops and business establishments kept their shutters down.
Goalanda upazila unit Jubo League, an associate body of the ruling party, called the half-day hartal on Monday, protesting the attack on Nurul Islam Mandol, secretary of the upazila unit Awami League, also Chairman of Upazila Parishad.
On Saturday night, a gang of 8-9 criminals opened fire on Nurul Islam, leaving him critically injured. At that time, he was returning to his village home at Arisan from Goalanda Bazar by a motorbike.
He is now being treated at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
