Grand rally of women on April 27
The Agitating Women Community will hold a grand rally in front of the National Eidgah in the capital at 3:00pm on April 27 in protest against the 13-point demand of the Hefajat-e Islam.
Leaders of different women's organisations told this yesterday while exchanging views with the central leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance at AL President Sheikh Hasina's political office at Dhanmondi.
AL Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu chaired the meeting, also addressed, by another member of AL Advisory Council Tofail Ahmed, presidium member Begum Matia Chowdhury, women activist Khushi Kabir, Prof Panna Kaiser, journalists Masduda Bhatti and Munni Saha and cultural personality Sarah Zaker.
Women leaders told the meeting that many people in the society were now terming as violation of human rights the demand raised for capital punishment to Delwar Hossain Sayedee and Ghulam Azam, for their crimes against humanity.
But, they asked, where the question of human rights was in 1971 when thousands of mothers and sisters of the country were violated by the war criminals.
They added the 13-point demand of Hefajat was nothing but an anti-women addict (Fatwa) in the real sense of the term and the demands were nothing but an appeal to keep the country's women community from legal work.
Amir Hossain Amu said, "The evil forces have taken to the field now for their existence. In the prevailing situation, we should not depend solely on the women organisations but we should mobilise their support making them conscious from the grassroots level."
Tofail Ahmed said united resistance should be built against those who would become vocal against the spirit of the Liberation War.
"As the country's womenfolk are fast marching forward in all the sectors, an evil design has been set up to push them to the age of darkness for their ruination," the senior AL leader added.
