Father complains against Shamim
Rafiur Rabbi, father of slain Tanvir Mohammad Toki, yesterday submitted a written complaint to superintendent of Narayanganj police naming seven suspects, including former lawmaker Shamim Osman and his son Ayon Osman, in connection with the murder.
The other suspects mentioned in the complaint are publicity and publication secretary of district Jubo League Jahirul Islam Parvez alias Kangaroo Parvez, vice-president of district unit Chhatra League Rajib Das, its general secretary Mizanur Rahman Sujon, and Ayon's associates Saleh Rahman Simanto and Rifat.
Eight to 10 other unnamed persons have also been mentioned in the complaint as murder suspects.
Rafiur Rabbi, also the convener of Narayanganj Gonojagoron Mancha, submitted the complaint to the district superintendent of police (SP) around 8:00pm.
SP Syed Nurul Islam said, "We would not call it a complaint, rather a piece of information."
Of the named suspects, Rifat is now under police custody and being grilled. Sources claimed that Rifat had given up important information.
Meanwhile, a 201-member anti-violence platform "Toki Mancha" was formed in Narayanganj yesterday. The committee comprises of representatives of progressive political parties and professional groups.
Toki's father and cultural personality Rafiur Rabbi has been made the convener of the committee while Narayanganj Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy its adviser.
At a press conference at Narayanganj Press Club in the afternoon, the committee announce a four-day programme to press home their demand for identifying and arresting the killers of Toki.
City Awami League president Anwar Hossain, Narayanganj Civic Committee president AB Siddik, District president of Communist Party of Bangladesh Hafizul Islam were present in the press conference where Halim Azad, president of Narayanganj Press Club read out a written speech.
In the press conference, Rafiur Rabbi said, "I did not mention any name in the murder case, but I mentioned why Toki might have been killed."
Shamim Osman and his family members were involved in the killing, he alleged.
The four-day programme of Toki Mancha includes, cultural programme of district unit Udichi on March 19, Maa Somabesh organised by Mahila Parishad at Chasara Central Shaheed Miner on March 20, Children's Gathering on March 21 at the same venue and CPB-BSD agitation rally on March 22.
