Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated
The nation on Tuesday celebrated the holy Eid-ul-Fitr amidst mirth, enthusiasm and religious fervour wishing peace, progress and prosperity for the country and greater unity of the world Muslim, reports UNB.
The Eid festivity that heralded the end of month-long fasting was marked by thousands of Eid congregations across the country and exchange of Eid greetings by the Muslims.
Wearing Pajama and Panjabi, Muslim devotees - the rich and the poor - offered their Eid prayers seeking divine blessings for peace and unity of the Muslim Ummay.
In the capital, the main Eid congregation was held at National Eidgah Maidan at 8 am. President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed attended the prayer. Four Eid congregations were held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
The last Eid congregation in the city was held at Dayemia Shahi Jame-e-Mosque of Chhoto Daira Sharif at 11 am. The biggest Eid congregation was held at Sholokia maidan in Kishoreganj with the participation of some two lakh people.
The President hosted two receptions - one for diplomats and the other for elite at Bangabhaban. He exchanged Eid greetings with the invitees.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also hosted receptions for diplomats and people from all walks of life at her official residence at Ganobhaban. A large number of people of different strata of the society gathered at Ganobhaban this morning. The Prime Minister exchanged Eid greetings with them.
Opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia passed a busy day Tuesday exchanging Eid greetings with the public, politicians, diplomats and professionals.
The people she exchanged greetings with included leaders of various political parties and professional groups, envoys and representatives of Dhaka-based foreign missions and international organisations, journalists, intellectuals and government officials.
The BNP chairperson and Leader of the Opposition exchanged pleasantries with them either at her 29 Minto Road official residence or her cantonment residence.
She also exchanged greetings with members of the public, who thronged in large number her Minto Road residence to convey their goodwill to her on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
A colourful procession was brought out in the city Thursday in celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Members of different organisations under the banner of "Dhakabasi" (citizens of Dhaka) joined the Eid procession and paraded various city streets.
Carrying musical instruments and colourful banners and festoons, the marchers highlighted the problems of city-dwellers and their possible remedies.
