EC suspends candidacy of Jahangir in GCC polls

The Election Commission yesterday suspended the candidacy of Gazipur sadar upazila Vice Chairman Jahangir Alam, a mayor candidate in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election.
The suspension order came as the commission did not find any letter from the candidate, backed by Sammilito Nagorik Committee, resigning from his vice chairman position.
Returning Officer Motiar Rahman declared it.
However, the EC has given him time up to 4:00pm today to submit his essential papers. Otherwise, his nomination paper will be rejected.
Jahangir said he submitted an application to Gazipur deputy commissioner to contest the polls where he prayed for resignation from the vice chairman position.
