DMP nod for opposition rally tomorrow

The BNP-led opposition alliance has got permission to hold a rally in the capital tomorrow to protest what it said “government oppression”.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities gave verbal permission to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, Abdus Salam, Dhaka city BNP unit member secretary, confirmed The Daily Star.
The 18-party combine decided to hold rallies at all upazila, district and city headquarters in the country on Thursday.
Yesterday, party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters at a briefing at the party’s central headquarters that the rally will be held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters.
A gayebana janaza will be held in front of BNP’s central headquarters on Friday for those opposition leaders and activists who were killed during the hartal that began at 6:00am on Sunday, Fakhrul added.
The opposition alliance wanted to hold a rally in front of the BNP central headquarters on October 25 but was denied permission by Dhaka Metropolitan Police. At the last moment, the alliance agreed to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Now, BNP has again applied for permission to hold tomorrow’s rally in front of its office.
Fakhrul, who held the briefing on behalf of the opposition alliance, claimed 18 leaders and activists of the alliance were killed and 7,052 injured since October 25.
He said the government cannot resolve the ongoing crisis through killing opposition men.
