DMCH vandalised by DU students
Some 150 students, mostly of Dhaka University's Shahidullah Hall, shattered the glasses on doors and windows of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's (DMCH) emergency unit yesterday after an on-duty doctor refused to admit a patient with minor injuries.
Shaheen, the patient's friend and a third-year student of DMC, had an altercation with the neurosurgery department staff around 2:00am over admitting the patient. The vandalism ensued shortly afterwards, said hospital sources.
The patient, Masud Rana, was referred to DMCH by doctors of a hospital in Pabna, where he resides, after sustaining injuries near his right eye in a scuffle over land three days back, said Masud's relatives.
“Students, mostly from Shahidullah Hall, rushed to the spot over a rumour that one student had been attacked in the hospital,” said Dhaka University acting proctor Dr M Amjad Ali.
DMCH Deputy Director Mushfiqur Rahman said a five-member probe committee was formed to submit a report in five working days.
No case was filed in this connection.
