Foreign Minister Dipu Moni Sunday postponed a prescheduled press briefing for foreign diplomats at a very short notice.
Scheduled at 3:00pm at the foreign ministry, the briefing was postponed only a few minutes before it was supposed to begin.
Official sources said the briefing was postponed as it was about to coincide with the prime minister’s press conference at Gono Bhaban, her official residence, which was set to start at 4:00pm.
According to officials, the briefing was called to apprise the foreign diplomats on the latest situation of the country, especially the arrest and detention of Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan.
Newsmen received text messages about 5 minutes to 3:00pm that the briefing was postponed.
By that time, several diplomats, including ambassadors and high commissioners, already appeared at the UNCLOS Conference room at the ministry and took their seats.
