CWAB to boycott BCB until demands met
The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has reconfirmed that no cricketer will take part in any match organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) unless the board lifts its ban on seven cricketers.
This was reiterated by the officials of CWAB at a meeting at a city restaurant yesterday night.
Chaired by CWAB president Minhazul Abedin, around a hundred cricketers joined the meeting.
National skipper Aminul Islam, vice-captain Khaled Mahmud, players Akram Khan, Athar Ali, Naimur Rahman, Saiful Islam, Mahbubur Rahman Selim, Monjurul Islam, Shafiuddin Ahmed, Azam Iqbal and Al-Shahriar were present among others.
Speaking on the occasion, CWAB secretary Faruque Ahmed said that their demonstration for an early transfer in November was held under the banner of CWAB and no one had any personal interest in that.
" If the board wants to punish anybody, they should punish CWAB and not any individual," said Faruque.
He also said that the cricketers played in the national league after being assured by the board president that their problem would be solved. But after the league they found nothing was done in that respect.
The CWAB issued a press release after the meeting mentioning that they would remain firm on their position and not play any cricket for BCB unless their demand for lifting the ban on seven cricketers was met.
Members of the CWAB were later scheduled to meet State Minister for Youth and Sports Obaidul Quader at his NSC office..
