CPB wants 'alternative democratic' force
Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) called for an alternative “democratic, left-leaning, development-oriented, patriotic, honest, and transparent” political force to enter the bipolar political equilibrium of Bangladesh.
The call was made as per recommendations of a three-day seminar of CPB's Central Committee held from July 23, chaired by CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim.
“Under the patronage of BNP, communalism and fundamentalist terrorism are on the rise in the country while attempts are being made to free the war criminals,” stated a CPB press release dated July 25.
“Awami League continues to tolerate all this so as to appease the sentiments of the US,” it added.
Referring to the ship-breaking industry, Ticfa deal and Rampal power plant project near the Sundarbans, it said Bangladesh's sovereignty was under threat because both political parties determined the country's welfare as per interests of international stakeholders.
“Both Awami League and BNP failed to reign in the looting, discrimination, oppression, bribery, extortion, unemployment, crime and corruption that goes on in the free market economy, leaving citizens in acute economic crisis.”
CPB fears that the bipolar situation could give rise to such levels of political instability, that an undemocratic takeover might occur, going against the country's democratic interests, stated the press release.
CPB added that in a situation like this, an alternative political power might be the only way out.
