Court accepts charges, order arrest of 14 fugitives

A Dhaka court on Tuesday took cognizance of the charges against 21 Chhatra League activists in connection with the December killing of tailor Bishwajit Das.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman also issued arrest warrants against 14 fugitives out of 21 accused as they went into hiding after the murder.
The 24-year-old was killed brutally during a road blockade by the BNP-led 18-party alliance on December 9 last year.
The court relieved four accused-- Mamun-Ur-Rashid, Faruque Hossain, Moslehuddin alias Moslem and Kazi Nahiduzzaman Tuhin -- of the charges following an appeal the investigation officer.
The court rejected a no-confidence petition against the probe report submitted by an advocate.
The court directed officers-in-charge of respective police stations to submit reports on execution of arrest warrants by April 17.
Inspector Tajul Islam of the Detective Branch of police submitted the charge sheet before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on March 5.
The arrested are Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, AHM Kibria, Quiyum Miah Tipu, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, Saiful Islam, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam alias Shakil and Emdadul Haque Emdad.
The fugitives are Md Alauddin, Obaidul Quader Tahsin, Imran Hossain alias Imran, Rajon Talukder, Khondoker Md Yunus Ali, Tarique Bin Zohor alias Tamal, Azizur Rahman, Noor-e-Alam Limon, Al Amin Sheikh, Monirul Haque Pavel, Golam Mostafa, Mosharraf Hossain and Kamrul Hasan and Rafiqul Islam.
