Court accepts charges against twelve
A Dhaka court yesterday accepted charges against 12 suspects in a case linked with the abduction of schoolboy Parag Mondol.
The First Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression, however, relieved the prime suspect, Jubo League leader Aminul Haque alias Jewel Mollah, of all charges. Two others, Rizvi Ahmed Anik and Alfaz Hossain, were relieved of all charges as well, although the public prosecutor appealed to the court to accept the charges against the trio.
The investigating officer dropped their names from the charge sheet submitted on March 23 saying the accusations against them could not be proven.
The accused are: Amir Hossain alias Moktar alias Lengra Amir, his wife Beauty Akter, his brother-in-law Abul Kashem, Md Kala Chand, Mohammad Ali Rifat, Zahidul Islam, Al Amin, Mamun Mia and Md Sakil. They are all now in jail.
The court issued arrest warrants for suspects Md Sultan, Md Wasim and Akash who are on the run.
The next hearing has been set for April 11.
Six-year-old Parag Mondol was abducted on November 11 from Keraniganj. The culprits had shot and injured his mother Lipi Rani Mondol, his sister Pinaki Mondol and their driver Nazrul Islam at the time of the abduction.
Parag was freed on November 13 after his family reportedly paid a ransom of Tk 50 lakh.
