Youth to die for killing wife

A court here yesterday sentenced a youth to death for killing his wife for dowry in 2013.

The convict is Shahidul Islam, 30, son of Rabbani Mandal of Chhatrajitpur-Biswaspara village in Shibganj upazila. The court also fined him Tk 20,000.

Two other accused--Rabbani and Nilufa Yeasmin, parents of Shahidul--were acquitted as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, Shahidul strangled Kulsum Begum, daughter of Abdul Latif of the area, for Tk one lakh as dowry on October 7, 2013.
