Mother 'hangs self after killing' 2 kids

A woman allegedly hanged herself after killing her two children at their residence in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj on Friday night.

“Hadisa Begum, 25, wife of  Mujibur Rahman of Nijnagar village under Dharmaghar union in Madhabpur, slit the throats of her two children – two-year-old Meem and seven-month-old Mujahid -- before hanging herself from the ceiling fan,” Chandan Kumar Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge of Madhabpur Police Station, quoted witnesses as saying.

“Hearing screams, the neighbour went to Hadisa's house at Nijnagar village around 9:00pm. Informed by locals, police went to the spot, recovered the bodies and took them to Habiganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem around 10:00pm,” he said.

“Hadisa's husband Mujibur Rahman, a shopkeeper, went into hiding after the incident. The sharp weapon used in the killing was also seized,” he added.

No case has been filed yet with the police station, said the OC.

On the other hand, Hadisa'a father Shamim Mia alleged that Mujibur Rahman killed her daughter and grandchildren and fled.

“Mujibur had been torturing my daughter since their marriage. We arranged arbitration on several occasions to solve their problems,” he said.

ASM Raju Ahmed, assistant superintendent of police of Madhabpur Circle, said police started investigation into the matter.
