Punish killers of Mukti
Freedom fighters yesterday staged a demonstration demanding exemplary punishment of the killers of the daughter of a freedom fighter in Santhia upazila.
Mukti Khatun, 22, daughter of freedom fighter Mozammel Haque of Nagdemra village, was a second-year student of Philosophy at Government Edward College in Pabna. She was burnt to death over previous enmity by rivals of her father.
On August 19 some criminals, allegedly led by Abdus Salam, president of ward-1 unit Awami League of Nagdemra union, attacked Mozammel's house and set fire to Mukti as a sequel to a longstanding political enmity with her father.
Protesting the brutal attack, freedom fighters formed a human chain in front of Pabna Muktijoddha Sangsad. District unit Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Habibur Rahman Habib and Deputy Commander Abdul Baten joined the human chain.
“We want the key accused to be arrested immediately for the sake of justice,” the freedom fighters said.
Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Mazid said police are alert to arrest all the accused.
“Police have arrested 24 out of 32 accused and all are Salam's supporters. We are trying to arrest the key accused Salam but he has gone into hiding,” he said.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to ensure security of the victim's family, he added.
